The CCA Scope of Practice (SOP) was approved by the Department of Health and Wellness in 2009. The SOP document was developed by representatives from health care employers, government, the College of Registered Nurses, and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses who conducted numerous consultations throughout the province of Nova Scotia. The SOP document outlines the accountabilities, roles, functions and limitations of the Certified Continuing Care Assistant who provides personal care and support for activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living.
The SOP is based on the educational preparation of the CCA; combining knowledge, skills, attitudes, and judgment required to become a Certified CCA. It does not list specific tasks or procedures which would become outdated as the role of the CCA evolves.
