Continuing Care Assistant Program

Student Admission Requirements

The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Program has minimum entry requirements which apply to both Classroom Courses and the Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program. 

The pre-requisites are:
  • Have Grade 12 certificate, a GED equivalent to grade 12, or be a Mature Student. 
    • Mature student must: 
      • Be a minimum of 21 years of age and have been out of school for at least one year.
      • Demonstrate the necessary numeracy and literacy skills. 
      • A documented assessment process must be used which must include a documented assessment strategy – e.g.: TABE Test or TOWES.
  • Have no criminal record (Canada wide police check current within six months of the being accepted into the program); 
  • Must be capable of performing all job requirements (physical and other); 
  • Have transportation which is acceptable to the placement site; 
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in one of the official languages in which the Program is delivered (French or English). For example, if the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) tool is used, the required minimum level for acceptance is Level 8. 
  • Have/obtain before skills development placement basic computer literacy skills (i.e., basic word processing, check and send email, basic web browsing skills).
